What Happens in a New Patient Visit with a Chiropractor?

The Chiropractor will start with a consultation with you to learn more about your pain as well as your past medical history,  then he will go over the risks and benefits of chiropractic and with your consent perform a brief examination of your problem, then give you a diagnosis and explanation of the adjustment and how he can help you. With your consent, he will then perform an adjustment as well as a brief post-adjustment examination. He may then make a recommendation and give you a prognosis of when he expects you can start feeling better. If necessary, he may follow up with you to see how you are doing. Walk-in chiropractic is simple but still thorough and addresses your pain symptoms. The time may last anywhere from 10 minutes to 20 minutes depending on your condition.

What is an “adjustment?”

You may have often heard this term to describe chiropractic treatment. An adjustment simply means realigning the spine with a series of maneuvers that unlock the joints, letting your body return to its normal position. The cracking sound you hear with an adjustment is called a cavitation. This is where gas is released from the joint or spine and may serve as an indication that the joint or spine was realigned. A Chiropractic adjustment does not hurt and the chiropractor can adjust his force based on your needs.
